Cal Smith: Country Bumpkin

14 Oct

Reblogging to update Cal Smith blog, since he died last Thursday.

Nostalgia and Now

The song Country Bumpkin climbed to No. 1 on the country charts in 1974. The song tells a story about the joys and sorrows of life and the late Cal Smith does an excellent job of telling that story through this song.

The song is extremely well written regardless of the title and the phrasing by Smith makes the song come alive to the listener.

Cal Smith died October 10, 2013 in Branson, Missouri.

Maryanne, It is a classic song in that it is both comedic and tragic. Very sad ending, but still a great song.
