American Idol Producer: May Let Judges Choose Who Stays Out of Bottom Three

American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe says that Pia Toscano was not getting that many votes, which would have kept her from winning Season 10 of the American Idol.

He also mentions that the judges may be given the power to select which of the bottom three singers goes home from week to week. Taking it further, that would mean that they probably would choose the American Idol from the final two on Finale Night.

It would lessen the importance of America’s vote, but it may prevent the show from becoming a popularity contest, since the judges would pick the best singer and not likely to play favorites.

If the judges had determined who went home this season, we may not have seen five girls in a row sent home.

The following poll asks the question if the judges should be given the power to select the one who goes home next season.

The next poll question asks if the total of votes for each singer should be revealed to public

  1. I have been watching American Idol for many seasons and have never been disappointed as much as I am this season. First Pia, then Casey, and the ultimate unexpected mess was James. It shows how inefficient and messed up the selection process is. I have no desire to watch the remaining episodes for this season. Unless something is done about this, I don’t think I will watch this show again.

    1. I envisioned James being in the final two on finale night. One thing about James is that he always was over 100 percent into his performances. I could have seen either James, Casey or Pia in the final two, instead all of them are gone two weeks before the finale.

The show has become or always was a popularity contest since fans vote for their favorites, but not necessarily the best singers. It was shocking that Pia Toscano went home before Naimi Adedapo.

The ratings will go down next week and probably even for finale night as voters see the ones they voted for voted off the show and lose interest in the show.
