Nicole “Snooki” Perlozzi of Jersey Shore fame recently was paid $32,000 to speak at Rutgers University. Her advice to the students was to study hard but party harder.
To make matters worse, Nobel Prize winner Toni Morrison will be paid only $30,000 to make the commencement address.
How does a reality star earn more than a Nobel Prize winner? I have nothing against Snooki accepting the money if Rutgers University would rather pay her the money than Toni Morrison.
Morrison wrote this about Bill Clinton in 1998:
Years ago, in the middle of the Whitewater investigation, one heard the first murmurs: white skin notwithstanding, this is our first black President. Blacker than any actual black person who could ever be elected in our children’s lifetime. After all, Clinton displays almost every trope of blackness: single-parent household, born poor, working-class, saxophone-playing, McDonald’s-and-junk-food-loving boy from Arkansas.
Snooki has parlayed her appearances on Jersey Shore into a goldmine. She will continue to get rich, as long as Jersey Shore fans continue to watch her show.
For Rutgers to spend $32,000 on a reality star is absurd. There is no logical explanation for wasting the money of the university.
Then to compound the travesty of her speaking at Rutgers, she gives advice to students to party harder, making it appear that studying is secondary to partying.
