Manual Typewriters Almost Extinct

Manual typewriters like this should be extinct in the coming years as computers make it easier to type and make corrections without having to align paper.

Manual typewriters are coming closer to extinction as electronic typewriters and computers make it much easier to type than the typewriters baby boomers grew up with.

Sticking keys, making corrections and changing ribbons were just some of the headaches connected with using a manual typewriter. However they were the only way to write a letter besides handwritten letters and used in offices till the word processors and computers made a manual typewriter obsolete.

Electronic typewriters are still being sold today but the typewriter pictured is thought to be the first commercially sold typewriter in 1870.

The Hansen Writing Ball the first commercially sold typewriter first sold in 1870.

Electric typewriters were manufactured as early as 1902. The QWERTY keyboard first was used in 1874 and is still the standard for most keyboards built today.

Corrections are much easier using computers than the manual typewriters. Instead of dealing with an correction paper an error can be corrected on a computer in a matter of seconds.

There may be manual typewriters still in use but most offices today use computers to expedite typing of documents and business letters.
